REPORTING · 23rd June 2011
At the City Council Meeting of June 23rd, Councillor Bob Corless Announced it is Legion Week from the 19th to the 25th.
“When Communities come together and remember the fallen and remember why Canada is a benevolent Nation and remember why Canadians are respected for service and humanity and the Legion is there to lead the way,” said Corless.
Corless explained how the legion helps the communities around Canada through investing in necessary skills, supporting the youth and contributing to many programs across the province. The BC/Yukon Command has 63000 members.
“The Royal Canadian Legion is Canada’s Largest non governmental service organization with open membership for all Canadians, sharing in the commitment of all Canadians of a strong and united Canada,” said Corless.
They are celebrating with a mall display and a headstone rededication service for A.B John Miniken, an Australian veteran who died in Kitimat. The rededication will be on Saturday, June 25th at 2:00 at the Cemetery followed by a raising of the new Canadian flag and refreshments.
