A second motion came from Councillor Corinne Scott at the Council Meeting on June 6th for the director of Engineering Services meet with the Advisory Commission for Persons with Disabilities to review the Handicapped Parking standards and report back to Council.
”The Advisory Commission for Persons with Disabilities has been established and we have had two meetings. The group has decided they would like to address disability issues in Kitimat. They are handicapped stalls and when talking about people with disabilities, its about providing access to everyone that lives in Kitimat,” said Scott.
She explained they could not spend a lot of money to make everything accessible at once but it is possible but they would like to address the issue in small increments. They wanted stalls looked at because they are too narrow to get out of the vehicle and get around with a wheel chair or a walker. There is also a shortage of stalls.
The motion was carried.
