It was Seniors Week last week and the Snowflake Senior’s Centre celebrated every day with new activities. On Friday, June 10th, they concluded their festivities with Cake and a Fashion show.
“We always celebrate Seniors Week in style, every year, always. It starts on Monday and goes through to Saturday,” said Tilly Bachman who was instrumental in organizing the week.
Monday, they held a 30 person crib tournament and a bridge tournament. On Tuesday, there was a carpet bowling tournament in the afternoon followed by entertainment in the evening. On Wednesday, the seniors took a trip to Prince Rupert via Bus for a great time. Thursday was a whist tournament and a swaka tournament. There was further entertainment in the evening. Friday was a light lunch with tea, the fashion show and Mayor Joanne Monaghan was there to cut a cake for them. On Saturday, they went to Sea Masters for lunch.
This year is a very special year for the Snowflakes Senior Center as this year they celebrate their 30th year as a society. They received their charter on April 28th, 1981. They will be celebrating their 30th anniversary alongside their Christmas party in December. Bachman said there would be a lot of surprises alongside this party.
Prior to cutting the cake, Mayor Monaghan commented on how having seniors in a community completes the community. She also stated she was present at the original opening of seniors centre.
Bachman encouraged seniors to come down and join the organization. She is at the centre every day.
