REPORTING · 2nd May 2011
Walter McFarlane
There might be more important things going on in Kitimat tonight, chief among them, a Federal Election. However, Council will still have their Regular Meeting at 7:30 Pm in the Public Safety Building.

The meeting kicks off with a presentation by Anna-Marie Carstens, Representing Kitimat Arts for Youth on the topic of a Kitimat Art Festival.

After approving minutes, giving the financial plan bylaw final adoption and three readings for the tax rate bylaw, Council moves into reports. There are three requests for Community Event Grants from: Kitimat Arts Festival, Kitimat Dragon Boat Society and the Kitimat Music Scholarship Society.

The next three reports deal with temporary Industrial Use Permits, Commercial Use Permits and Building Permits for Kitimat Landscaping, Kitimat Dynamics Gymnastics Club and 386 Haisla Blvd respectively. The next report is a Development Variance Permit for the Construction village at Rio Tinto Alcan.

The final four reports are a resolution going to the NCLGA convention, a meeting with NHA at the NCLGA, Councilís Policy on Oceans and a Schedule for upcoming meetings and events.

Under Communications are a draft letter to the FCM concerning value added processing of Canadian recourses and a letter from the village of Granisle concerning a letter to the Minister of Health in response to a Review of Health Services Delivery.

However, in all the excitement of City Council, do not forget there is also an election today. Donít forget to vote.
