On April 18th, Mayor Joanne Monaghan gave another update on the goings on in Kitimat. Among them was an update on the housing task force.
“A plan is complete for an active senior’s development, KEDA, the Kitimat Economic Development is looking after the future and the marketing of that initiative. The housing task force has now gone another step,” said Monaghan.
She explained they met with James Munro, director of BC housing. The grant writer is preparing for two feasibility studies. The housing should be for assisted living, people with disabilities or a combination there of. The feasibility study will find out which.
She also talked about BC LNG, the Task Force for Cleaning up Kitimat and the new folks in town. The latter was attributed to the Rio Tinto Alcan Modernization.
“I have heard that houses are renting and selling and there is a sense of optimism in the air. We look forward to this great development,” said Monaghan.
