On January 27th, Mayor Joanne Monaghan signed the declaration of Heart Month in February. Present with her was Terry Runions of the Community Development Coordinator of Heart and Stroke Foundation.
“It’s our national month where we promote heart disease and stroke and when we have our canvassers across the country go out and canvas for the Heart and Stroke foundation raising funds for vital research,” said Runions.
Runions was pleased to announce the number of canvassers was up from last year. This year, they have recruited 81 Canvassers over the 93 routes.
Monaghan stated people are starting to realize that Heart Disease can be prevented and how they can prevent it. Runions stated they are working on getting the Heart disease fatalities lower every year and it also affects women as well as men.
