Kitimat youth from the Mount Elizabeth Jr. Boys basketball team were selling hotdogs at Overwaitea on Friday, January 21st to earn money for traveling.

“These kids are heading up to Rupert for a couple of basketball games [on Saturday]. It’s to help offset the cost for the bus that we’ll be using to transport them up,” said Mitch Duncan, a volunteer coach.

The Jr. Boys team participated in the PRSS Coastal Basketball Tournament.

“We did very well. We represented Mount Elizabeth very well this past weekend. We came up against the #1 team in the Northwest who is Skeena Jr. Secondary and we pushed them right to the end. We still came a little short,” said Duncan.

Kitimat played two games. They played against Charles Hays Senior Secondary and won. They lost by only a few points against Skeena Jr. Secondary. The tournament is not over yet and there will be two more games this weekend against Prince Rupert Senior Secondary and then against Hazelton Secondary.

In addition, there is another game for the Mount Elizabeth team on Sunday. The RCMP and the Kitimat Fire Department will be putting up teams against the Mount Elizabeth team from 2-6. Admission is a non perishable food item to go to the food bank.

“We’ll be teaching our kids how to give back to the community,” said Duncan
