REPORTING · 5th January 2011

On December 17th, the Telethon Society met for the last time, in their present incarnation. The purpose of the meeting was to change the constitution and by laws from being a society into a Community Foundation.

The constitution and bylaws for the Telethon Society were old but were very close to what was needed to move the Telethon Society into the Foundation. The members of the society looked through the items and hammered out several changes and a few spelling errors.

“The historical people did a great job for us, we just have to change some of the intent and some of the lines,” said Margaret Warcup who chaired the meeting.

Warcup explained a community foundation would create other avenues other than the Telethon for raising funds. They talked about how the Foundation would work and how funds would be distributed. The Telethon Society itself would become a committee in the new foundation.

The motion was called and carried. One woman at the table, identified as Margaret, commented the amount of work, which has gone into the Society, was unbelievable. “You saw the need which was beyond us. It saved the day because look at our Telethon this year,” she said.
