If you are a Haisla, you just received $8,000 because your band members voted to release the Haisla interests in and accept the gas pipeline on the reserve lands. If you do not actually live on the reserve and if you have been receiving social assistance from the Provincial Government, January might be your worst nightmare, if you spend all that money and do not consider the following.
The Provincial Government considers, at this time, you will not be in need of assistance; these funds, the $8000, will not necessarily be exempted.
From Stacey Tyers
Off Reserve Income Assistance recipients will be considered ineligible for the February benefits which are issued in January. The payments you received are from business profit/income and not a government to government payment.
Cheques beyond that will be based on your individual circumstances. Some items that you have purchased may be exempt and allow you to be eligible sooner. However, You must keep your receipts for items that you purchase.
