Here we are at the beginning of December already with only about 2-1/2 weeks to go before the delivery of Christmas hampers to Kitimat and Kitamaat Village. Donations to date are as follows: J&R Belsham $50; S Valgren $5; A Holmes $5; N Gray $5; Mr. & Mrs. I Closs $100; M Gueguen $100; M John $5; Anonymous $5; FBBC - Kraft Hunger Challenge $64.45; J Stevens $200; Mr. & Mrs. R Reschke $30; D Little $50; T McCullough $10; M McKim $50; Mr. & Mrs. M Middleton $150; Anonymous $60; Mr. & Mrs. H. Borralho $100; D Carter $50; E Geiger $500; Anonymous $5; Kitimat Presbyterian Church $100 and Anonymous $100 for a total of $1839.06. Included in the total is $94.61 raised by the CFNR Food Drive recently held in front of Super Valu where donations of food were also accepted. Thank you all for your support.

Overwaitea is again offering "food bags" their customers can purchase for $5.00 (total in the bag far exceeds the $5) and these can be put in the Food Bank "House" in the store. If enough bags are purchased one is placed in every hamper and if any are left over the items are placed on our shelves for use after Christmas. Last year the Food Bank filled over 300 Christmas hampers and it is expected the need will be even greater this year due to the current economy and the fact more people are accessing the Food Bank on a monthly basis. We rely on the generosity of the community - schools, churches, local businesses and individuals that allow the Food Bank to carry on year after year.

Overwaitea and Super Valu off B.C. Share Coupons for $2.00 that can be purchased by customers at the till when paying your bill with this money going to local Food Banks.

A reminder to those wishing to apply for a Christmas hamper - all completed requests have to be in by Friday, December 5th. Request forms can be picked up at the Social Services Office, Salvation Army Thrift Store of the Food Bank on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Forms can be dropped off at the Salvation Army Thrift Store or the Food Bank. If the Food Bank is closed please drop form through the mail slot as these are picked up on a daily basis.

Gifts are given to all children under 12 and last year there was a need of gifts for teens and adults. Gift certificates from local businesses are a great idea for teens and adults. If you are giving a gift that requires batteries, please include with the unwrapped gift. Non-perishable food items and gifts may be dropped off at the Advantage Wings Travel Christmas Tree or the Dairy Queen Christmas Tree. Cash donations can be mailed to Box 20, V8C 2G6, dropped off at Envision Credit Union of the Food Bank. Receipts will be mailed out for donations of $10 or more for income tax purposes. Delivery date is Saturday, December 18th. We are the only agency delivering Christmas hampers in Kitimat and Kitamaat Village.

Another reminder - CFTK, in coordination with Hawk Air and Wings Travel, are offering a trip for two to Vancouver in a draw to be made later in December. When donations are made at Wings Travel the donors name is entered in the draw.

In 2009 over $32,500 was donated to the Christmas Hamper Appeal allowing us to fill 330 hampers and have money to carry on through 2010. Please remember to Care and Share. Thank you all and a special thanks to the media for helping us to get this message out.
