REPORTING · 15th November 2010
Walter McFarlane
Linda Campbell stated it was an honour to speak and hoped the audience would realize she was the only candidate to recognize the issues facing Kitimat. She stated the town was in trouble, not because of a corrupt government or state of the economy but because of internal rot.

“Kitimat is in the path of other small cities that are no longer on the map and at the core of this internal problem of Kitimat is an apparent inability to free ourselves from our fears, insecurities and feelings of powerlessness. For far too long, we have been dependent on vision and direction of interests and powers who do not have our best interests at heart,” said Campbell.

Campbell said people are afraid to speak the truth and have become slaves. To advocate for Kitimat is to lose. To win, you have to let others manipulate you. She stated in the past, she has been strong on critical issues and people chose to detract from her on account of those issues. She said there a fear among those with status of those who will rock the status quo.

“If what you seek is change and the change you're seeking is someone who goes along to get along, then these here will be your choice,” said Linda Campbell as gestured at the other candidates. “I am not that one. I will not apologize for defending you and putting Kitimat first because it is better to be disliked for who you are then to be loved for who you are not.”

Thank you.

It is an honour and a privelege to speak to you directly, this evening.

By the end of this evening you will come to beleive that I am the only candidate that recognizes and understands the issues facing Kitimat. You will also come to believe, that I am the one candidate that has a solution for our common problem, thus making Linda Campbell your best choice for councillor.

My dear friends and fellow citizens.

We are at a defining moment in our history.
Kitimat, one of the greatest cities in British Columbia, is in grave trouble.
Not because of the power of a corrupt Gov't, or the terrible state of the economy,
but because of an internal rot and decadence,
that could very well sentence this City to an early death.
Kitimat is in the path of other small cities that are no longer on the map.
And at the core of this internal problem of Kitimat, is an apparent inability, to free ourselves from our fears, insecurities and feeling of powerlessness.

For far too long, we have been dependent on the vision and direction, of interests and powers who do not have our best interests at heart. We have suffered a continued degradation, to the point that we fear to speak the truth. We fear the consequences of truth, and because of this we have become slaves to that fear.

In Kitimat, if you want to lose, just be an advocate for Kitimat! If you want to win, with the power brokers, let them manipulate you, and soon they will have you turning your back on those out whose ranks you came.

In the past, I have been known to take a strong position on critical issues, and my detractors seek to expolit that virtue. As a matter of fact, they are your detractors as well. Kitimat from the early days has always been about status or the lack thereof, and there has always been an element of Kitimat high-society that fears, anyone, that will rock the status-quo. If what you seek is change and the change your are seeking is someone who "goes along to get along", then any of these will do, because I am not that one. I will not apologize for defending you and putting Kitimat First, for it is better to be disliked for who you are, than to be loved for who you are not.

I'm not before you to anger you, nor to upset you, I am before you as an instrument, I hope, of peace and I hope of reason. As a wife, a mother and a grandmother, I have served this community faithfully for 18 years, and have never been an enemy of anyone. I hope that you will understand before this is over that I am the only candidate that is pro-Truth, pro-Justice and that seeks the liberation and independence of Kitimat and it's beautiful people.

Thank you.
