RCMP conclude search for armed man with arrest

The Terrace RCMP and North District ERT have concluded their operations to locate and arrest an armed man. The second suspect was arrested with minimal incident this afternoon, after he fled his residence.

Reports from investigators and ERT members from the location are as follows:

"The suspects fled the residence using a boat, with members observing the father dropping off the son on the opposite side of the river, down stream. The father then returned to the property and was arrested without incident. An RCMP Police Dog and ERT members deployed near the drop site and conducted a search through the rugged terrain and dense bush, locating and arresting the 30 yr old man." stated Cpl Dan Moskaluk.

"Our officers are to be commended in regards to their carrying out their duties in this incident from start to finish. It is at great risk to themselves that the search and extraction of the suspect in bush conditions was successfully concluded without injury to any. It is by far riskier for our members to deploy in these conditions compared to urban police interventions" added Cpl Dan Moskaluk.

Both 30 yr old and the 54 yr old remain in custody with the investigation continuing. Investigators will now work within the preliminary 24 hr detention period, in which a proposed charge submission will be made to crown counsel.

Highway 16 has since been reopened.
