On Saturday, October 23rd, the Kitimat Girl Guides held their celebration of 100 years of guiding. They celebrated with a tea and fashion show of all the old uniforms at the Anglican Church in Kitimat.
“The Girl Guides of Canada are celebrating 100 years of guiding,” said Anna Marie Long, “We’re having a tea and silent auction and a vintage uniform fashion show.”
The uniforms go back as far as 1910 and came from vintage uniform collections here in Kitimat and in Prince George.
“The Girls seem to really enjoy them. Some of them have very nostalgic feelings about them,” said Lois Godfrey.
The Guiding program was formed by Lady Baden Powell. It teaches girls to be the best they can be. They focus on citizenship, camping and crafts. It is the largest woman’s organization in the world.
“We promote peace and friendship through the world,” said Godfrey.
