FIGHT HST REQUESTS APOLOGY AND RETRACTION FROM BC LIBERALS AND YOUNG LIBERAL ACTIVIST FOR INAPPROPRIATE COMMENTS ON TWITTER
Former BC Young Liberals Communication Director attacks Bill Vander Zalm
Vancouver - Fight HST is requesting an apology and retraction from the BC Liberal Party and its former BC Young Liberals Communications Director over inappropriate comments posted online on Twitter attacking Bill Vander Zalm.
In a Twitter post Wednesday September 29 former BCYL Communications Director Zach Poturica, still a BC Liberal activist, says: “Vander Zalm to politics is what Michael Jackson was to children, a lost + confused person with an amusement park.”
Chris Delaney, Fight HST spokesperson, says Poturica’s comments are offensive and have no place in the debate over the Harmonized Sales Tax.
Delaney says that since the BC Liberal Caucus, Attorney General Mike de Jong and BC Liberal MLA Terry Lake have all complained publicly in recent days about past inappropriate comments by Fight HST volunteers, they should have no problem apologizing for Poturica’s remarks.
“This is a young BC Liberal activist who should know better than to make such terrible comments and we hope he and his party will apologize and retract immediately,” Delaney said. “Let’s debate the HST and get away from personal smears like this.”
Fight HST Strategist Bill Tieleman said that in addition to his past BC Young Liberal position, Poturica has twice been introduced in the B.C. Legislature in recent years by BC Liberal MLAs John Slater – who thanked him for tireless work on his election campaign - and Harry Bloy, and his Twitter posts are followed by Premier Gordon Campbell and other BC Liberal MLAs and party officials.
