NEWS RELEASE · 24th September 2010
Local resident, Ryan Windsor, has agreed to take on the role of Recall organizer against Saanich North and the Islands BC Liberal MLA and Minister of Labour, Murray Coell.
Windsor says that Coell received over 30% of registered voters’ signatures on the petition to end the HST, one of the highest numbers of any riding in BC, and needed to be included in the Recall plans.
“There was very strong support for the petition in my riding. I am hearing from so many people that Mr. Coell is not listening to them on this issue, and is siding with a government that has lost all credibility instead of with the people who elected him. That is not why we elect MLAs, and it’s time to hold him to account,” said Windsor.
Windsor was a Fight HST captain in Saanich North and the Islands for the anti-HST initiative, and a key organizer in the success of the petition there. He will be assisted by another Fight HST organizer, Sue Stroud, also of Saanich North and the Islands.
Chris Delaney, Lead Organizer for Fight HST, welcomed the participation of Saanich North and the Islands to the recruitment phase of the Fight HST Recall Strategy. “Ryan was instrumental in organizing this riding for the petition. We know he will succeed with Recall as well, and we are delighted to have his skills and energy for this campaign.”
Fight HST Leader, Bill Vander Zalm, said Labour Minister Murray Coell is not listening to his constituents, and is trying to force a tax on the people of Saanich North against their will. “The people of Saanich North have spoken. As many people signed the petition to end the HST there as voted for Mr. Coell, but he doesn’t care. Perhaps a Recall will get his attention.”
Windsor said he is looking forward to recruiting as many canvassers as possible, and said people can contact him by email at: greenryan,,,me.com
