Councillor Richard McLaren has officially resigned from office turning in his resignation on Monday, August 23rd. This will trigger a by-election.

According to District of Kitimat Administration, the dates for this election are currently unconfirmed although they stated this would follow the same process as a regular election and will probably take approximately 3 months. Further information on how to run in this election is forthcoming.
