Colleen Nyce passes the cheque to Margaret Sanou
NEWS RELEASE · 4th August 2010
Retire Kitimat
The Retire in Kitimat Task Force will be spreading the word about the many benefits of retiring in Kitimat at the Zoomer Show at the Vancouver Convention Centre on November 27 and 28 thanks to a generous $5000 donation to the task force by Rio Tinto Alcan.

Rio Tinto Alcan representatives, Colleen Nyce and Kevin Dobbin, attended a task force meeting on April 27 to explore ways that they might support the task force's efforts. A follow up letter from task force member, Corinne Scott, resulted in Rio Tinto Alcan deciding to provide the funds necessary to enable "Retire In Kitimat" to be an exhibitor at the first Zoomer Show in Vancouver.

The Zoomer Show, a consumer show and lifestyle expo for Zoomers (aka 50+), is organized by Zoomer Media Limited, which is affiliated with CARP (the Canadian Association of Retired People). The group has already staged two successful Zoomer Shows in Toronto in October of 2008 and 2009.'This year they are branching out and holding a show in Vancouver as well as in Toronto.

Zoomer Media expects that the Vancouver show will attract more than 150 exhibitors who will provide information, new products, advice and services. The show is expected to have more than 12,000 attendees who will sample, shop, learn, discover and play. In addition to exhibits in a wide range of categories- health, money, lifestyle, travel, activity and wellness - there will be a main stage with continuous entertainment, fashion shows and an art exhibit. CARP members will be admitted free of charge and tickets for non members will be $8 for individuals and $15 for a pair.

The Retire in Kitimat Task Force is excited and very thankful towards Rio Tinto Alcan for making this opportunity possible as a trade show where task force members can speak in person to retirees and soon to be retirees is the most effective way to promote Kitimat as a desirable retirement location.

The group also owes a big thanks to local charter operator, Dave Wahl, who put the group in touch with Steve Dotto who provided the task force with the initial information about the Zoomer Show.
Kudos to Rio Tinto Alcan

Thanks to Rio Tinto Alcan and the District of Kitimat in believing that a small group of people volunteering on the Retire in Kitimat Task Force CAN make a difference. Their support of the Task Force's endeavors are very much appreciated.
