The United Kingdom will use a made-in-B.C. and world- renowned customer service training program to train people working in the tourism industry as they prepare to welcome visitors ahead of the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London, announced Kevin Krueger, Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts today.

"WorldHost trained approximately 39,000 tourism industry volunteers and staff, from key sectors across B.C., to successfully 'Welcome the World' in preparation for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games," said Krueger. "Now it is London's turn to host the Games and B.C.'s WorldHost program has been chosen to give participants the essential customer-service skills required to host the world in 2012."

WorldHost Training Services, a program of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, was initially launched as SuperHost to prepare B.C. for the Expo 86. The program has now expanded, with over 20 international licenses granted and close to one million participants having completed SuperHost/WorldHost training worldwide. WorldHost is a global leader in customer service training solutions and is designed to upgrade customer-service standards in the tourism and hospitality industries.

People 1st is the Sector Skills Council for hospitality, leisure travel and tourism throughout England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. It was established to support the development of skills and training for the two million individuals who work in the U.K.'s tourism industry. The Province has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with People 1st to deliver the WorldHost training tools, materials and customer service delivery models to prepare the tourism workforce for the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games.

"We have many great opportunities to shine on the world stage and WorldHost will play a significant role in ensuring that visitors to the U.K. get the warm and professional welcome they deserve."

WorldHost training has been delivered throughout B.C. and worldwide for more than 24 years. Delivery organizations are licensed to administer workshops and are trained by master trainers from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts.
