REPORTING · 28th July 2010
Walter McFarlane
With only a few minutes to 7:30 on Monday, July 19th, there was obviously something missing from the Council Chambers. Only two City Councillors were present with Mayor Joanne Monaghan, Councillor Rob Goffinet and Bob Corless.

Two of the Councillor’s Name Plates were turned down, signifying they were not available, Councillor Mario Feldhoff who has not been at the last several meetings and Councillor Richard McLaren who is reported to be ill. Also not present were Councillor Gerd Gottschling and Randy Halyk.

With no Quorum (or four of the seven Council Members), Council was forced to push a majority of their business to another day. However, there were still three presentations scheduled for the meeting and as they say: “The show must go on.”
Tax dollars
Comment by Joseph Paulk on 4th August 2010
I agree with you Daniel, but what I did NOT see in the article was why the missing councillors were absent. It is possible there were legitimate reasons for all the absences, so I'm not going to get in too much of a tizzy unless this becomes a regular occurence.
Tax Dollars hard at work (Or not?)
Comment by Daniel Carter on 28th July 2010
Our tax increase earlier this year was a slap in the face for most citizens of Kitimat. The least our councillors can do is show up for work considering our tax dollars pays them a salary.
I can understand if you are sick, you are sick. There are far too many problems in Kitimat that need to be addressed and cancelling meetings is not helping matters.
