Premier Gordon Campbell issued the following statement in celebration of the World Cup final match:
"I extend congratulations to both the Dutch and Spanish World Cup soccer teams on the occasion of their historic match today. People of both nationalities celebrated throughout the world, wherever they were, as they viewed this tremendously close and entertaining game.
"I also applaud South Africa, who as the World Cup host nation, welcomed athletes and spectators from around the world with warm hospitality and expert organization, making memories that will endure as a proud legacy of a global celebration.
"As we saw during the recent 2010 Winter Olympic Games in British Columbia, sport is the language of conciliation and truly brings the world together, in peaceful harmony, and makes lasting friendships. I offer my congratulations on behalf of all British Columbians."
