Member of Parliament Nathan Cullen held his annual Barbecue Fundraiser on July 2nd. Burgers and Hotdogs were on the menu and the plates were $5 towards a good cause.

”We’re raising some money for the Kitimat Seniors Society. We’re trying to help out another community group. We do this every year, we have our Barbecue and every year we pick a non profit [organization],” said Cullen.

The Senior Society was selected by the Humane Society who benefited last year. Serving the food were fire fighters, Margaret Warcup from the Child Development Centre, MLA Robin Austin and Mayor Joanne Monaghan.

”Every year, we typically raise between $600 and $1000. While it is not a lot of money, it can help some groups do some things. A lot of the charities are being cut off of any kind of government or BC Lotto Support and it’s really getting tough for some groups. It’s getting tight,” said Cullen.

As they were running out of some items as the Barbecue neared it’s final hour, it was an obvious success.
