The Canada Day parade began at noon with a theme of 2010 to Back When. Organized by the Kinsmen Club of Kitimat, the parade was collection of marchers, floats and drivers.
The parade started with the colours and were followed by the RCMP and the Fire Department. The RCMP were out in force and three fire trucks were deployed. They were followed by Mayor Joanne Monaghan, Citizen of the Year Ian Seaby and lady of the year Margaret Sanou.
Marchers included the Kitimat Public Library, Overwaitea Foods, The Kitimat Museum Summer program and Kitimat Gymnastics.
The floats included the Haisla Nation with the Spirit of the Kitlope Dancers, the Masons, The Luso Club of Kitimat, Rio Tinto Alcan, the Child Development Center and the Riverlodge summer programs.
Finally, amidst the Vehicles were The BC Special Olympics Kitimat Athlete and Volunteer of the year, Annika Frater and Teri Apps, the Kitimat Modernization Project, CAW 2301, CFNR and the Handidart.
Also on foot during the parade were MLA Robin Austin and MP Nathan Cullen.
The winners of this year’s parade were announced during the stage show. The best Youth Float was the Riverlodge Summer Program, the Service Float went to the Spirit of Kitlope Dancers and the best business float was the Overwaitea Foods.
