It was Bull-O-Rama in Kitimat on Saturday, June 12th. 20 cowboys took on 40 bulls with 10 more bulls waiting in the wings.

The night opened with a spectacular display of pyrotechnics courtesy of Rick Jones along with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner and O-Canada by Krystal Penny.

Then the bull riding began. Cowboys came from all over to get on the bull and be bucked off. Between rides, the Coppertown Clown entertained the audience and the announcer with props, stunts and humour.

When the dust settled, Evan Fuller from 150 Mile House and Jeff Roany from Chiliowak were tied for first place with 85 points. Fuller scored his points in the first round riding Captain Obvious while Roany received 85 points in the second round riding Daywalker. Steve Hohman from Quesnel came in third with 83 points riding nightmare in the first round.

“It was excellent, it was a first class bull riding, things went real well, guys rode some good bulls, things bucked well it was good,” said Earl Call of C+ rodeos.

Among the bulls was famous bull: Van Helsing, a bull which has only been ridden once in the last two years for 89 points. He is a crowd favourite known for getting the cowboys on the ground. Fortunately, There were no serious injuries. At worst, one of the cowboys broke their collarbone.

During the performance, a painting of a bull, signed of course, was auctioned off. The $4,800 went towards the Snowflake Community Fairgrounds.

“Kitimat has treated the cowboys and us as contractors awesome. It was a really nice event,” said Call.

Call stated he hopes to return for a third annual Bull-O-Rama next year.
