With just over a week to go until race day, SalmonRun 2010 committee members are gearing up for another spectacular event. During the pre-registration phase the organizing committee received over 170 registrations, fully eclipsing last year’s total number of participants.
“It is really good to see people so excited about coming out and being part of a community event that promotes the beautiful trails in Kitsumkalum as well as healthy living,” said Colleen Austin, SalmonRun Committee Chair. “With this many pre-registrations it’s pretty clear that we’re well on our way to another successful SalmonRun.”
It is the second year for this event which started as an idea of ‘Na Aksa Gila Kyew Learning Centre students and staff who in years previous attended the Sun Run in Vancouver.
“We felt that it was time to try and create a similar type of run locally, one that could bring our communities together,” said Austin. “It’s fun to go to Vancouver and be part of such a huge event, but it’s equally, if not more, rewarding to see friends, neighbours and family members enjoying themselves right here in the northwest.”
The committee hopes to build off last year’s success by keeping it a family event for all to enjoy including elders, children, competitive and non-competitive runners.
“Last year was amazing, especially since I was able to run with my family, including my parents, children and aunt who is an experienced marathon runner,” said Nina Peden, participant. “This event will grow each year, and it will be exciting to see people come out and enjoy healthy living.”
Those still interested in participating in this year’s event can register on race day starting at 10:00 am or download the registration form at www.kitsumkalum.bc.ca
