NEWS RELEASE · 12th June 2010
Festivals Kitimat
Festivals Kitimat plans are on the go as we are less than one month away from Canada Day! This year’s Federal Sponsors are the District of Kitimat, Service Canada Summer Student Program and as of last week the Skeena Native Development Summer Student Program. We would also like to thank the Kitimat Kinsmen Club for the continuous support and sponsorship in our Canada Day Celebrations.

Festivals Kitimat and the Kinsmen Club are still taking application forms for the parade and hope that many will join the community spirit and come out with a decorated float that represents the theme of “2010 to Back When”. There are prizes for the best decorated service, youth and business entries. Parade forms are also available at our website:

An exciting event worth checking out on Canada Day is the new Street Hockey Challenge Tournament taking place in the Riverlodge Tennis Courts from 10am-10pm (with a parade break). Anyone from ages 9- 19+ years old can register a team. Call the Liberal Botelho at 639-1016 or the Festivals office for more info or to pick up a team form.

A Texas Hold-Em Poker Tournament will be held in the Riverlodge Community room which can hold up to 300 players! There will be many prizes and there is no entry fee so just drop by between 1-9p.m. The Kitimat Food Bank will hopefully benefit from this tournament, so they are asking if you can bring along any non-perishable food donations as you come through the door- would be appreciated. For more info. contact Bernie James at 632-4795.

The Canada Day Celebration on July 1st will start off with the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at 7am in the upper City Centre Mall parking lot, and will end at 11am. The Kinsmen Club parade will follow at 12noon starting from Mountainview Sq. Another event happening at Tamitik is the 7th Annual Show & Shine car show from 1-4pm- contact Jane Cummings for more information at 250-632-5566.

Don’t forget that there is free public bus service from 10am-6pm and a free fun swim from 6pm-9pm at the Sam Lindsay pool on Canada Day.

Riverlodge will be hosting a stage show with performances by dance groups and singers, the International food fair starting at 1pm, helicopter rides, pony rides, girl guide birthday cake, a kid’s fun zone put on by CDC from 1:30-3:45pm, and exciting soccer games being played on the field. We are still looking for a few more performers! Feel free to call, email or stop by and we will get you an application form.
