REPORTING · 4th June 2010
The Chamber of Commerce is hosting its latest promotion for shopping in Kitimat: The Spirit Dollars. The promotion runs to the end of June so save up those dollars to buy the item you want.
“It’s running for the month of May and June. The way this particular program works, the businesses that are participating donate a prize of whatever value they choose. We give [that business] that number of spirit dollars. The business then gives the spirit dollars out to their customers. When they are shopping, they spend a minimum of ten dollars, they get a spirit dollar. The customers are collecting spirit dollars,” said Trish Parsons, Manager of the Chamber of Commerce.
Customers receive one spirit dollar for every purchase over ten dollars. Once they have accumulated spirit dollars, they can spend the money at the Spirit Dollar Store located in the lower City Centre Mall. The store contains all the prizes which vary in value. Prizes left at the end of the promotion will be drawn for from the spirit dollars which have been handed in.

I wondered the same thing! I haven't seen a "Spirit Dollar" yet either.

As usual this 'spirit dollar' campaign is so poorly promoted that I, a Kitimat resident, had not heard of it prior to this article in The Kitimat Daily! I have not received any of these Spirit Dollars as yet even though the campaign is more than half over. I do shop in Kitimat, I have spent money in many stores in Kitimat over the past 5 weeks! Who is participating?
