Corporate Fundraising Chair of Music & Friends 2010, Rob Dykman, extended today an urgent request to the local Business Community to step forward and provide financial assistance for this years planned festival in Terrace.
“For four years, Music & Friends has been fortunate to access federal and provincial Arts & Festival type grants that when combined with the generosity of local sponsors was sufficient to give organizers a sense of security to move forward with the tremendous undertaking. However, such is not the case in 2009 and 2010 as we feel the impacts locally of the global recession. We are two months away from the Festival event and while the committee has been knocking on doors and working very diligently to raise funds, unfortunately we are at a serious crossroads of having to make the big decision as to whether or not we move forward with our festival again this year”, said Rob Dykman.
Music & Friends has a long-standing reputation as a high quality family-friendly event that showcases the vast local talent in the region. The various recorded artists and performances that have graced the Music & Friends stage compliment the all-age access the festival works hard to maintain.
Festival President, Clarence Nyce adds, “we know it has been a rough year and a half economically and local businesses are struggling, but Music & Friends is a great way to attract thousands of people to our community all of whom will spend money in local hotels, restaurants, shops and service stores.”
Music & Friends acknowledges the corporate sponsors that have so far stepped forward to help the July 16-17th festival: Astral Media, Progressive Ventures, Pacific Northern Gas, McAlpine & Company, and RioTinto Alcan.
