The Kitimat Quilters Guild held a weekend retreat at Riverlodge, the weekend of the 30th of April and May 1st and 2nd. The room was packed with people, sewing machines and material.
“This is the first open retreat we’ve had for the Quilters Guild where we’ve had out of town people coming in. We’ve got people from Victoria, Rupert, Terrace and Kitwanga coming here. We kept our invites to 65 and we have 65 women, no problem,” said Darlene Richdale who organized the event.
The goal of the retreat was so quilters could discuss their techniques, show off their works and most importantly, have fun. The fun went on until midnight on Friday and Saturday and half the day Sunday before the quilters departed.
The Quilters Guild provides a lot of service to the community, donating quilts to people who need them, whether they have fallen on hard times, suffered loss in a fire, as well as to the elderly.
Gayle Sworek came up from Houston to quilt.
