Premier Gordon Campbell made the following statement on Vaisakhi Day:
“It is my pleasure to extend greetings to the Sikh community on Vaisakhi – the holiest day of the Sikh calendar. More than 20 million people worldwide will celebrate Vaisakhi, and over 165,000 British Columbians will take part.
“I’d like to mark the occasion this year with my thanks for the Sikh community’s contributions to British Columbia for more than 100 years. Your participation in business and community-building has added to the success of our province. The enduring and rich Sikh culture is a point of pride, not only for Sikh community, but for all British Columbians.
“As you celebrate the tradition and meaning of Vaisakhi with family and friends, I would like to extend my appreciation for the roles you play in our communities – for your vision, your determination and your leadership. I wish you prosperity and happiness in the upcoming year.”
