KidSport continues to expand across British Columbia “So ALL Kids Can Play!”
Richmond, BC – On Wednesday, March 31, 2010, KidSport BC welcomed Kitimat into the growing mix of communities committed to helping BC children get in the game. Kitimat is one of the latest communities in British Columbia to establish a KidSport community chapter, bringing the total number across the province to 38.
"All kids should be given the opportunity to participate in sport, no matter the financial barriers that may exist,” said Rick Christiaanse, Sport BC‟s Executive Vice-President. “We are excited to welcome Kitimat into our family of KidSport community chapters and look forward to building on the tradition of sport in the community.”
KidSport Kitimat will provide registration grants for children ages 6-18 to ensure all children can participate in a sport season of their choice. Funds raised in the community will stay in the community, allowing the people of Kitimat to contribute directly to the health and positive development of children in their own neighbourhoods.
“KidSport will provide youth in Kitimat who need financial assistance a chance to participate in sports and the opportunities of a lifetime,” said Martin Gould, Recreation Director in Kitimat. “The KidSport chapter will assist in ensuring that no child is left on the sidelines and will provide those accessing the program a healthy and active lifestyle.”
This chapter is one of many new community chapters that opened over the past few months to serve the influx of children who were inspired to participate in sport following the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
