REPORTING · 30th March 2010
Walter McFarlane
Jack Oviatt was at Council on March 8th to advertise the upcoming Bull-O-Rama for 2010. He presented Mayor Joanne Monaghan with a picture of her riding a bull and introduced himself. This year, the Bull-O-Rama will take place on June 12th.

“I’m here representing the Kitimat Snowflake Community Fair Grounds Society with the help of countless volunteers and financial support of Terrace and Kitimat. We’ll be hosting the Bull-O-Rama again this year in Kitimat. For those that missed it last year, it was a grand time,” said Oviatt .

He expressed last year, the event sold out and everyone had a good time. It drew out of town visitors, involved community groups and had 75 sponsors for three hours of excitement.

Oviatt explained in the Bull-O-Rama, a rider must ride an untamed bull for 8 seconds. This year, they plan on offering $10,000 in cash, a silver belt buckle and trophy spurs to the winners. They hope to increase the contestants and draw in rodeo fans. In addition, there is a pancake breakfast in the morning and they are going to have Sight & Sound adjust the sound system so people can make out what is being said. This year, the half time show is a dog act entitled: “The Copper Town Clown.”

Last year, money went to the community fair grounds and other organizations, including the Gyro Club, Rotary Club, Karate Club, Northern Spirit Paddlers, Figure Skating, Philipeno Club, Kitimat 4H and the Looking for Love Animal Shelter. This year, the Animal Shelter will receive a larger portion. 99% of the sponsors are still on board.

He concluded by saying the event has been advertised all over BC and ticket requests have already come in from as far away as Kelowna. Oviatt said he expects it to sell out and sell out early. He asked Council for their continued support at the same level of funding as last year to showcase Kitimat.

A motion was made to give Bull-O-Rama the $1500. Feldhoff motioned to change the amount to $3000, the same amount they gave last year. The motion was carried.
Thanks Jack Oviatt
