The Association of Francophones and Francophiles du Nord Oust (AFFNO) had their annual Maple Syrup Festival as a part of Kitimat’s Second Annual Winter Festival Mayor Joanne Monaghan, MLA Robin Austin, MP Nathan Cullen and AFFNO President Danielle Dalton were in Kitimat sharing in the festivities.
“Today is the 2nd day of the Winter Festival and this morning we are having the brunch of the Maple Syrup as we call it in Quebec,” said Diane Dessureault.
Prior to the Brunch, the Kitimat Public Library put on their Puss N’ Boots Puppet Play. The Community Room at Riverlodge was well decorated courtesy of Eleanor Kendell with an Olympic theme.
Austin, Cullen, Monaghan and Dalton were called upon to introduce the Maple Syrup Festival. Each of these public servants, although they were given a table of honour, were also given the opportunity to serve the people attending the Brunch by serving their food.
The food included eggs, potatoes, beans, ham, pancakes and Tourtiere. Entertainment during the brunch included Karoke, and Philippine Dancers among others. The brunch ended with toffee on the snow. The Winter Festival continues today with Skidoo rides at Riverlodge.
