The Kitimat Community Literacy Network is putting on their Second Annual Family Literacy Night on January 27th. It is an opportunity for the family to come out and learn about literacy services in the community. Stories will be told and songs will be sung. Last year’s night was an excellent event.
“January 27th is Family Literacy Day across Canada and we are going to be celebrating the day, promoting family literacy in the community. At Nechako School, we’re having Family Literacy Night from 5 until 7:15,” said Alyson Worboys, Literacy Outreach Coordinator.
The theme this year is Sing for Literacy. Planned is a Karaoke room, a sing a long room and the night will close with a sing along, the Kitimat Song written by Bill Volrath. Other activities include a fish pond where kids grade one and under can fish for a book or a book walk where children from grades 2-7 can receive a book. Dinner this year is a hot dog dinner.
This year, there is not as much funding or as many volunteers as there were last year so there will not be as many activities. They’ve decided to stretch activities through out the year.
