The Kitimat Legion Bombers Midget Rep Tournament wrapped up on Sunday with the finals. The early games of the morning included Fort Saint James and Burns Lake which ended in a shoot out, the final score 3 to 4 in favour of Burns Lake. Houston and Smithers ended in Smithers Favour, 6-2.

Kitimat took on Prince Rupert starting late due to the shoot out between Burns Lake and Fort Saint James. The game began and both teams spent the first half of the game rotating in and out of the penalty box. A fight broke out behind the Prince Rupert Goal.

Prince Rupert scored the first goal of the game but Kitimat quickly tied things up with a ricocheted shot that caught the Rupert goaltender on the wrong side of the net. The score remained tied until late in the 2nd period when Prince Rupert scored a second time. Kitimat came back at the bitter end of the period to put in 2 more goals within 14 seconds.

The third period started with Kitimat’s final goal of the game bringing the score to 4-2. About five minutes into the 3rd period, a Kitimat player stuck in the penalty box was told to hit the showers by one of the referees. The puck went back and forth between the two sides and ended up in the Kitimat net with 44 seconds on the clock.

The final score was 4-3 in favour of Kitimat who took third in the tournament.

The final game of the tournament between Terrace and Vanderhoof was rather one sided. Terrace took the lead by 2 points in the first period and held onto it throughout the game scoring three more goals in the second. Vanderhoof managed to score a single point in the third period.

Half way through the third period, one of Terrace’s players was forced to leave the ice after being checked hard into the glass. Immediately after, the Terrace team scored two more goals, one of which was brilliantly maneuvered around the Vanderhoof goaltender. However, the score remained the same for the rest of the game and Terrace won the tournament 7-1.

Vanderhoof received the silver medal and Terrace took home the gold.
