Christmas might have passed but that means it is time to announce the winners of the 2009 Light it up Contest. There were only four categories in Kitimat this year. Best Over All, Best Fantasy, Best Religious and Community Spirit.

“Mayor Joanne Monaghan, Councilor Rob Goffinet and Kitimat Chamber of Commerce Directors Debbie Oviatt and Derick Stinson cruised the streets of Kitimat and admired the many homes that were decked out with holiday themes and spectacular lights,” said Trish Parsons, Manager Kitimat Chamber of Commerce.

The winner of best overall was the Levesque household at 115 Whittlesey. The Godfrey household at 5 Bunting Street took best Fantasy and the McFarlane Household at 29 Halibut Street took best Religious. Community Spirit went to Smith Street where a majority of the houses had lights lighting up the neighbourhood.

“We will be looking for many more opportunities in 2010 to acknowledge the Community Spirit of Kitimat,” said Parsons.
