Reshaped range to 400 meters
NEWS RELEASE · 21st December 2009
Jason Vines
The Alcan Anderson Creek Shooting Society is pleased to announce a recent re-development of the District of Kitimat community shooting range Fire Mountain. This re-development project, at the request of the Society, has been funded by RTA with further support being sought through the Recreation Infrastructure Canada (RinC) grant. The society wishes to acknowledge RTA’s funding assistance and efforts to relocate the Society after being displaced by the Modernization project.
This project is a multi-partner arrangement with funds supplied by RTA and RINC, a land use agreement and property by the DOK with property operations co-managed by the Shooting Society.

Major features of the new facility include a re-shaped 400 meter large bore and rimfire rifle range, a 60’ X 14’ covered shooting line, a shotgun course featuring 5-stand shooting and upon approval, a 50 m restricted (handgun) range. Watch for these improvements and more in 2010 as the construction continues weather permitting.
This new multi use facility will offer a safe environment for all of Kitimat’s more than one thousand firearms owners to improve their skills and enjoy shooting sports. The Society will be hosting shooting events and offering training courses. This improved venue will provide for local agencies such as the RCMP, Canadian Forces Rangers, Federal and Haisla Fisheries officers, the Kitimat Rod and Gun Club and Sea Cadets to conduct firearms training and qualifications.

The Society has welcomed the co-operation on this project from the District of Kitimat and federal and provincial agencies. The society wishes to recognize and thank Rio Tino Alcan, RINC and West Fraser Eurocan for their generosity as well as local contractors, businesses, and many individuals for their support.

Watch for updates and temporary range closures as construction continues. Please respect this recreation facility which is maintained with your municipal tax dollars. No ATV’s on the property.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays Kitimat shooters!

This is a project that has been long overdue. I used the old facility and it was functionable but was also in bad need of an overhaul. Although I am not entirely sure if I will have to belong to a shooting club to use the facility, I however have no problem paying a reasonable dollar to use it. I just hope that it will be respected better than the old range was. Good work to all of those involved.
