The Senior Physical Education Class from the high school has quite the challenge put before them this semester. One of their goals this semester is to earn the Bronze Cross Lifesaving. Working with the students are instructors Jo Young, Tyson Teneycke and Gina Rowlett.
“They’ve been coming down since October. They spend 2 days a week in the water and they have one day a week where they are in the classroom. They are working on their bronze cross bronze Medallion program. […] Their ultimate goal is to receive their Bronze Cross,” said Susan Dobbin who teaches the class.
The Bronze Cross program has been a part of the high school curriculum for the senior class since Dobbin took it over. The students do have a challenge for them. One of the challenges is swimming 24 lengths of the pool in 18 minutes.
“It’s hard work for the students. I think that when they get to the end, they realize what they have accomplished. Sometimes, it’s a struggle in between because it’s a two and half months of intense work and it’s a lot of work for them, on their parts,” said Dobbin.
