REPORTING · 4th December 2009

With the 2010 games on the way, physical fitness seems to be becoming a common theme. The Kitimat Recreation Department is putting on a program right now challenging the people of Kitimat to get in shape for 2010.

“You can either swim 2010 laps of the pool, exercise for 2010 minutes or walk 2010 laps of the arena,” said Jo Young who has organized the challenge.

Does that sound difficult? Exercisers are able to combine the number of lengths they swam or laps they walked around the arena with the minutes they spent doing them. For every ten laps, lengths or minutes spent, participants mark off their success in a book.

When a book is finished, it is entered in a draw for prizes. The deadline for completing the challenge is February 28th, the end of the Olympic Games. In addition, participants can try to finish as many books as they can.

“This is just a different way instead of just coming in every day and swimming lap after lap, this is a different way to challenge one's self,” said Young.
