Kitimat held a Bantam / Pee Wee House Tournament over the weekend of Friday, November 28th to November 30th. 16 teams from across the Northwest competed in both Tamitik Arena and the Kitimat Ice Rink. Each team played four games and wrapped up in the finals on Sunday.
In the Pee Wee Division, there were teams from Stewart, Smithers, Hazelton, Prince Rupert, two teams from Terrace and two teams from Kitimat. In Bantam, there were three Kitimat teams including the All Girls Wolverines team, two Terrace teams, Smithers, Rupert and Hazelton in Bantam.
The Finals came down to the Stewart Grizzlies and Hazelton Bulldogs for Peewees followed by the Smithers LB Paving and Hazelton Bulldogs playing for the Bantams. After a long weekend of hockey, the Stewart Grizzlies brought home the Peewee trophy and Smithers LB Paving took home the Bantam Trophy.
In addition, there were tonnes of prizes that were handed out, including door prizes, goal prizes and player of the game prizes. There were many great games in the tournament. The tournament organizers hoped that the youth all had a good time.
“It was a good weekend. We are thankful for all the people who helped support Kitimat Minor Hockey, all the volunteers,” said John Cales, Bantam Divisional Manager.
Smithers LB Paving won their final against the Hazelton Bulldogs to take home the trophy.
